A growing gut has a growing community.

As young rabbits go from milk to solid food, the mix of microbes in the cecum changes. That pouch in the green layer is where microbes break down small plant particles. Its position explains what you see in the model, even without knowing Caca’s exact age.

Behind the exhibit.

The sources behind the behaviors, anatomy, and motion you see on the light table.

How to read the lights

The body is a hand-built 3D teaching model of a young domestic rabbit. Organs, pathways and poses are simplified. Colors identify systems. The moving dots illustrate direction or timing, depending on the layer. Distances, speeds and brightness are illustrative. Caca inspired the exhibit; his anatomy and vital signs were never measured for it.
